how often do you find yourself doomscrolling through social media + seeing everyone living their best life imaginable? most of us are on both ends of that, typically posting our highlights but also comparing ourselves to everyone else. “she’s got the coolest life, traveling all the time”, “he must make so much money to afford a house like that”, “they have the best marriage ever.” it can leave us feeling not good enough. yet we can logically tell ourselves that what you see on social media is not fully accurate, + maybe in some cases not true at all.

this project is a deeper take on “instagram vs reality” + i’m highlighting the fallacy of social media in that everything is not always as it seems + we don’t always know what’s happening “behind closed doors”.

looking for subjects that are willing to show a real version of themselves and/or their lives. this will involve vulnerability + openness about current struggles to showcase that everyone is fighting their own battles. these photographs are aiming to point out the damaging effects of social media on young people (all ages really), but also it will aim to reassure viewers that most of us are more relatable than what social media leads us to believe.
